What's On in Devon during August

24th July to 1st August - Port of Plymouth Regatta. Competitive racing classes for Dinghies and Yachts, plus a day of rookie racing for the less experienced enthusiast.
30th July to 3rd August - Classic Boat Rally, Plymouth. This event has been described as the friendliest and most enjoyable Classic Boat Rally in the South-West of England and 2010 will be no exception. Spend a day at the stunning waterside location of Sutton Harbour.
3rd to 26th August - Junior Rangers learn Bushcraft at Haldon Forest. Every Tuesday and Thursday in August (bar the 31st), is the chance for children to build shelters, light fires and track wildlife. 10.30am-4pm. Age 8-12 years, booking essential.
4th August - The North Devon Show. A host of livestock classes occupy the arenas throughout the day with Alpacas, Cattle, Goats, Horses, Sheep, Show Jumping and Open Dog Show. Attractions, displays, demonstrations and trade stands for all.
6th to 8th August - Dartmoor Folk Festival, South Zeal. Also offering the new and exciting Children’s Festival, which includes circus skills, storytelling, arts, crafts and music sessions plus local crafts and sideshows. There will be a caravan and campsite with all the usual facilities.
10th & 11th August - British Fireworks Championships, Plymouth. The event can be viewed from 9.30pm at Plymouth Hoe with entertainment starting at 6pm courtesy of Heart Radio, as well as fairground rides and refreshments.
18th to 20th August - Children's Festival, Paignton. Join Cosmo the Clown for the 65th Children's Festival on Paignton Green. Expect music, magic and a hint of mischief, with a packed programme that includes wildlife displays, cookery sessions, treasure hunts, discos, competitions, circus acts, street entertainers and the return of the infamous Children's Festival Water Fight!
28th & 29th August - Occombe Music Festival. Live bands and soloists take to the stage at Occombe Farm for two days packed with well known hits mixed with orginal tracks!
Now to 30th August - Art on the English Riviera featuring Damien Hirst. A brand new exhibition featuring Damien Hirst’s Mother and Child, Divided (Exhibition Copy). This will be the first time the piece has been seen in the UK outside of London.
